Omantel hosts workshops for SMEs

Muscat: Omantel held several workshops for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to spread awareness about the recently launched Omantel Business Excellence SME Awards initiative.

A team from Omantel Business Unit visited Sohar, Nizwa, Sur and Salalah and met with small and medium enterprises. During the meetings, the team received a number of applications to take part at the competition and answered queries by the subscribers.
The new initiative by Omantel aims at boosting the SME sector and recognising the rising stars and entrepreneurs.

Ali bin Bakhit Kashoob, senior manager,  Product Development at Omantel Business Unit said, "We have been keen on meeting with subscribers and advising them of the details of the competition.

"We explained to them the main aims and objectives of the competition including recognising the success made by shining entrepreneurs who managed to have a toehold at the market despite the tough competition.

"The main aim behind this initiative by Omantel is to promote the entrepreneurship cultures among the different sectors of our society especially the SME sector which is the backbone of our national economy and a key driver to sustaining growth."

Omantel Business Excellence SME Awards will be presented in five categories, namely, best performing company — small enterprise, best performing company — medium enterprise, best new entrant, turnaround success story of the year and community contribution.

"Winners will also be provided with free facilities from Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) that include utilising the OCCI conference facilities twice in a period of one year and placement of the Winner's Web banner in OCCI website for one full month," he concluded.
