Muscat international airport records 10 per cent passenger traffic increase

Muscat: The total passenger traffic including transit and transfer passengers through Muscat International Airport has increased by 10 per cent to 4,122,700 passengers at the end of June 2013 compared to 3,749,000 passengers for the same period of 2012.

The statistics released by the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) pointed out that the number of arrival passengers increased by 9 per cent to 2,060,338  at the end of June 2013 comparing to 1,893,771 for the same period of 2012.

The number of departing passengers has also increased by 13 per cent to 2,036,502 at the end of June 2013 comparing to 1,808,359 for the same period of the year 2012.

The increase in arrival and departure traffic into Muscat International Airport is attributed to the increase in the number of flights to some airlines operating into Muscat International Airport, such as Oman Air, Sri Lankan Airlines and Shaheen Air.

In terms of air cargo traffic at Muscat International Airport, Aviation Statistics indicate a decline in the total unloaded and loaded freight by 1 per cent with total shipment 58,513 tonnes at the end of June 2013 compared to 59,007 tonnes in the same period in 2012.

Salalah Airport has an increase by 14 per cent in the total number of arriving and departing passengers to 333,982 passengers at the end of June 2013 compared to 294,209 for the same period of 2012.

As for the movement of Air Cargo at Salalah Airport, freight traffic has recorded an increase in the total unloaded and loaded freight, bringing the shipment to 748 tonnes at the end of June 2013 compared to 670 tonnes in the same period in 2012.
