Muscat: In an attempt to facilitate convenient and simple online donations, especially throughout the holy month of Ramadan, the Information Technology Authority (ITA) reported a significant success in its ongoing online donations campaign.
The donations programme during this year's holy month of Ramadan was even more successful, not only in terms of the amount the public donated, but also in terms of how people were able to choose to donate online.
Using the online donation portal donate.om, donors were able to contribute to 10 participating charities this year, raising OMR61,072, compared to last year's OMR41,561, an increase of 47% during the holy month.
The total number of donors reached 164 from throughout the Sultanate. The Al Rahma charity team received the largest share among the participating charities. In 33 days, the team collected OMR26,528, while Dar Al Atta'a Association collected OMR17,689 with 33 donors for both charities.
Oman Charitable Organisation (OCO) came third with the donated amount totalling OMR15,677.
This online donations portal initiative is operated in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD), as a means of offering donors an easy and simple way to donate money using a Visa or Master Card.
Further, the public is invited to offer help to raise the donations portal to the next level, as the portal remains available to process donations.
This is an initiative aimed at making the donations portal a top location for charities across
Officials believe the website provides an opportunity for those who want to donate, but do not have the time to visit those organisations listed on the site.
