Show of solidarity: Omanis and Egyptian residents in Muscat express their angst over the bloodbath being witnessed in most populous Arab nation capital, Cairo, and other cities.
: Nationals and members of the Egyptian community staged a sit-in in the front of the Egyptian Embassy on Friday. The protestors were expressing their angst over the bloodbath being witnessed in the most populous Arab nation over the last few days.
The organisers of the protest said that the bloodshed was triggered by the crackdown on rallies in Rabaa Al Adawiya and Al Nahda Squares. The rallies were organised by Islamists in protest against the ouster of former president Mohamed Mursi last month.
Call for restraint
This comes at a time when the Egyptian capital, Cairo, and a number of other cities have witnessed continued incidents of violence.
The UN Security Council has called on the Egyptian government to exercise "maximum restraint" to end violence which has seen many killings. The deaths occurred when security forces broke up camps of protestors allied to the Muslim Brotherhood. Demonstrators had been staging sit-ins for weeks, demanding the reinstatement of President Mohamed Mursi, overthrown by the army in July.
