Muscat: The number of visitors to Khareef season in Salalah from June 21 until August 15 totalled 229,713, compared to 137,772 visitors in the same period in 2012.
This represents a 66.7 per cent growth this year, according to the statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information. The number of Omani visitors stood at 159,839, constituting 61.1 per cent of the total number of visitors, followed by Emiratis in second place with a total of 49,838 visitors, who formed 20 per cent of the tourists. The rest of the GCC nationals stood at 13,156 visitors, constituting 7.4 per cent of the total number of visitors to the Governorate of Dhofar this year.
The number of visitors who arrived by air stood at 32,842, comprising 14.30 per cent of the total number of visitors, including 28,633 who came via domestic flights, constituting 12.46 per cent.
The number of visitors who came via international flights stood at 4,209 — constituting 1.83 per cent of total visitors. The number of visitors who came by road stood at 196,871 — constituting 85.70 per cent of the total visitors.
