Oman, Iran look to boost ties

Tehran: His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and President Dr Hassan Rowhani of the Islamic Republic of Iran held a session of talks at the presidency headquarters of Iran in Tehran yesterday.

During the meeting, cordial conversations were exchanged. The session discussed aspects of the existing cooperation between the Sultanate and the Islamic Republic of Iran in various fields such as political, economic, cultural, trade and investment fields and also the ways to enhance such cooperation.

The session was attended from the Omani side by Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court, General Sultan bin Mohammed Al Nu'amani, Minister of the Royal Office, Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al Rowas, Adviser to His Majesty the Sultan for Cultural Affairs, Dr Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhy, Minister of Oil and Gas, Dr Salim bin Nasser Al Ismaily, Chairman of the Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development and Sheikh Yahya bin Abdullah bin Salim Al Fannah Al Araimi, Sultanate's ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

His Majesty the Sultan and Iranian President Rowhani also held a private meeting.
His Majesty the Sultan's visit to Iran aims at enhancing the strong historic relations binding the Sultanate and Iran and stemming from the keenness of His Majesty to cement good neighbourly ties between the Sultanate and its neighbours in the region.

His Majesty arrived on a three-day visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran yesterday.

Upon the arrival of His Majesty the Sultan at the presidency headquarters, President Rowhani of the Islamic Republic of Iran led the welcoming ceremony for His Majesty.

Then, President Rowhani escorted His Majesty the Sultan to the Dais of Honour where the Omani Royal Anthem and the Iranian National Anthem were played.

Later, His Majesty the Sultan, accompanied by the Iranian President, inspected the Guard of Honour that saluted His Majesty.

His Majesty also shook hands with Mohammed Javad Zarif, Foreign Minister, Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, Minister of Oil, Ali Jannati, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, Minister of Industry, Mines and Commerce, Mohammad Nahavandian, Head of the Presidential Office, Ali Akbar Sibeveih, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Sultanate, Hussein Amir, Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs and Waliullah, Head of the Protocols Department.

President Rowhani shook hands with members of the official delegation accompanying His Majesty the Sultan.

Welcoming ceremony
After the end of the official welcoming ceremony, President Rowhani escorted His Majesty the Sultan to the Protocols Hall.

His Majesty is accompanied by an official delegation comprising Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court, General Sultan bin Mohammed Al Nu'amani, Minister of the Royal Office, Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al Rowas, Adviser to His Majesty the Sultan for Cultural Affairs, Dr Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhy, Minister of Oil and Gas, Dr Salim bin Nasser Al Ismaily, Chairman of the Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development (Paiped) and Sheikh Yahya bin Abdullah Al Fannah Al Araimi, the Sultanate's ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Bilateral cooperation
The visit also underlines His Majesty's interest in supporting the existing bilateral cooperation between the Sultanate and the Islamic Republic of Iran in all fields to serve the interests of the Omani and Iranian friendly people and all people of the region, in addition to discussing topics of common concern in light of the developments at the regional and international arenas.

From the Iranian side, it was attended by Mohammed Javad Zarif, Foreign Minister, Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, Minister of Oil, Ali Jannati, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, Minister of Industry, Mines and Commerce, Mohammad Nahavandian, Head of the Presidential Office, Ali Akbar Sibeveih, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Sultanate, Hussein Amir, Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs and Waliullah, Head of the Protocols Department.
