Ghanaian winger Mubarak Wakaso is set to join Russian side Rubin Kazan from Espanyol for a reported fee of six million euros ($8 million, £5.2 million), the Spanish club confirmed on Wednesday.
"Espanyol and Rubin Kazan have reached an agreement on Wednesday for the transfer of Mubarak Wakaso to the Russian team, as soon as he has passed a medical with his new club," said a statement on the Espanyol website.
The 23-year-old only joined the Catalans from Villarreal last summer and his only season with Los Pericos was dogged by disciplinary problems as he was sent-off twice and picked up a further 13 bookings.
And he apologised to everyone involved at the club for having pushed the move through.
"I want to say sorry to the club, the players and the fans because I have asked to leave although they didn't want me to," he told Espanyol TV.
"It was the right opportunity for my future."
