Muscat: Shrimp fishing season will start from September 1 off the coast of the Sultanate and will continue till November. Fishermen from the governorates of Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and some wilayats of Dhofar will be allowed to go to the sea to catch shrimp.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, represented by its departments at the Governorate of Al Wusta, has completed all the preparations for this season, including administrative and technical procedures, guidance and awareness efforts, and regulatory and statistical-related work during the shrimp fishing season.
The regulatory side is considered the most important aspect for the ministry's preparations, through the application of the Fisheries Law and its regulations for the sustainability of this wealth on the coasts of the Governorate of Al Wusta and other nearby governorates.
In a statement, the ministry said it would organise various activities, including seminars and lectures, for awareness related to fishing equipment and method to ensure sustainable hunting and protection of shrimp habitat.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has conducted a number of studies and research projects on shrimp stocks, aquaculture and sustainable ways of increasing production.
