The Heat (ORPIC) beat FPI Pampanga Dragons, 2-1 in the best-of-three games, to clinch the inaugural Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) All Filipino Basketball Cup at the recently concluded tournament held at the Oman Club.
The Heat (ORPIC) was also crowned as champions in the 2012 FMB/Filcosoc Summer League held at the Marahland basketball court.
In Game 1 of the finals, Heat (ORPIC), got the better of the FPI Pampanga Dragons, 69 to 67.
In Game 2, it was The Heat's (ORPIC) turn to miss consecutively from the free throw area with 24 missed shots. The Dragons won the game 81 to 77. In the rubber winner-take-all match Game 3, The Heat (ORPIC) took the championship trophy via an 87 to 74 overtime win over the fighting FPI Pampanga Dragons. With the Heat leading by 4 points and less a minute left on the clock, Erson Tiapson converted a 3 pointer and narrowed the gap to a single point.
In the end, it was the deep bench of The Heat that made the difference while for the Dragons playing 2 hard fought games in the semifinals took its toll on the team as they lost steam in the
The tournament was sponsored by Oman Telecommunications Company and organised by the Filipino Community Social Club (Filcosoc). The awarding ceremony will take place on August 30, at the Oman Sports Club Basketball Court.
