In an event held earlier this week under the patronage of Sheikh Saif Ahmed Al Khalili, Chairman of the Bowsher's Club and Secretary General of the clubs of Oman, the Samba Futsal Centre inaugurated its first school in Oman.
As one of the fastest growing sports in the world, Futsal provides a great opportunity for countries seeking to develop sport as a form of social development.
By practising Futsal, youngsters in Oman will be able to develop their technical skills not just for the sport itself but also earn other skills specifically required for football as well.
Explaining the different programmes that the centre provides, Paulo Koscina of the Samba Futsal Centre said, "I am very excited to see our dream come true. Our centre caters to all children and youngsters between the ages of 4 and 16 and we offer an array of programmes to match the abilities of the various age groups." As Oman Football Association has it as a project to develop the country's official Futsal league, the Samba Futsal Centre would like to start its team and become a pioneer in Oman.
"We aim to develop the first official Futsal team of Oman," concluded Koscina.
During the first season from September to December 2013, the Futsal training sessions are held twice a week, Sunday and Tuesday from 4pm to 7pm, for the children in the Under-13 and Under-16 age groups. As for Sambinha programme targeting groups of children Under-5 and Under-7, there will be five training sessions every Saturday Futsal is the official name chosen by Fifa for this sport. Earlier, many names were being used, such as Futebol de Salao 5-a-side and indoor soccer (name still used for a game played in the United States, where they have similar rules but the basic difference is that the ball doesn't go out along the sides of the pitch).
