Muscat: United Thalessery Sports Club in association with Ahli-Sidab Club are all set to launch third edition of United Thalessery Cricket League at the Ahli-Sidab club from today, 6.30pm.
The tournament will held today and tomorrow on a league basis and the semifinals and finals will be held on October 3 and October 5 respectively.
This year the organisers had decided to include corporate teams to give the event more charm.
The corporate teams are: Al Nahla Solutions, Al Dastoor, Polyghot Institute, Sarco and Al Rehwan Contracting.
The teams which will take part in the general category are: UTSC, Teleboys, Chalembeez, Tely warriors and Team Coorg.
Each match will consist of eight overs with a bowler allowed to a maximum of two overs.
Mohammed Raffi of UTSC said: "We express our gratitude to Ahli-Sidab Club for joining hands with UTSC to promote the game of cricket in Oman. UTSC had always organised sports events to promote talents among the expatriate community and the citizens."
The organisers had decided to felicitate Indian social Club's community welfare secretary and noted social worker P.M. Jabir for his dedicated and committed social activities for the past three decades in Oman and India.
Incidentally, P.M. Jabir hails from Thalessery, a city in Northern part of Kerala, popularly known as the sports city of Kerala.
"We are proud that PM.Jabir, is born in the same city, where UTSC has its root. His contribution to the Indian community in Oman are commendable. He is 'Thalessery's own son," said Jawis of UTSC.
There would be a winners and runner-up trophy along with the best batsman, best bowler, best fielder, man of the series and man of the match award for every matches for both the categories.
Fun games will also be conducted to entertain the family crowd. Sea Pearls LLC are the main sponsor of the event.
