"We have been working to bring these top two teams here for the last several months. We had fruitful discussions with them (the teams) and everything is being taken care of to have the match here," he said while speaking to reporters at the City Seasons Hotel.
Interestingly, Real Madrid is expected to bring some of its former players including Spanish forward Raul who made a record 774 appearances for the team, Brazilian great Roberto Carlos, Spanish star Michel Salgado, former Portugal star Luis Figo, Italian superstar Fabio Cannavaro, former Spanish midfielder Rafael Martin Vasquez, Fernando Hierro of Spain who made 439 appearances for the team, Jose Emilio Amavisca, Christian Karembeu and Ruben de la Red.
Barcelona will bring Brazilian star Rivaldo, Thomas Christiansen (Denmark), Giuly (France), Gerrard (Span), Nadal (Spain), Roberto Fernandez, Deco, Zenden, Fernando Couto and Jary Litmanen. The organisers are also in talks to bring Argentinean legend Diego Maradona who had previously played for Barcelona.
Al Shebi thanked the Ministry of Sports Affairs for giving the permission to organise the match at the iconic SQSC.
"This is a great opportunity for the fans. We know these two teams have huge fan following here and that is the reason as to why we are organising this game. It is not easy to organise such a big match and it requires huge financial and logistical support. We are looking for sponsors who could support us for this event," he said.
Speaking about the match, Rayco Garcia, representative of Real Madrid's international relations department, said: "This match is basically a gift from us to the fans in Oman. We know we have a huge fan following here and this is an opportunity for us to tell them that we are thankful for their support to us. We are trying to get some of the best players who had previously played for us. We are eagerly looking forward towards the match," Rayco said.
According to Josep Moratalla, Barcelona's international relations manager, the match will help the young footballers in the country. "I am sure most of these youngsters want to emulate these legends and this match will be much important to them," said Moratalla who was a former Barcelona player.
Moratalla who had signed for Barcelona at the age of 23 in 1981 appeared 19 times in the La Liga.
"It was such a fascinating experience to play for a great club like Barcelona and I promise that the match in Muscat will be as exciting as La Liga," he said.
