C. V. Balakrishnan, Madhu and Renny Jhonson.
For the first time, an Indian movie made by producers from the south Indian state of Kerala will be fully shot in the Sultanate, people involved with the making of the movie said.
Scripted by Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award winner C. V. Balakrishnan, the movie will be directed by Madhu Kaithapuram, who made his directorial debut with the feature film Ekantham in 2006 that won him the National Film Award as the best debutant director.
"The movie will be featuring the life of expatriates and Omanis. It will portray their ups and downs, hopes and distress and happiness and sorrow. The movie will not be a typical 'nostalgic expatriate' movie," Balak-rishnan said.
The movie is based on the writer's novel Sulthan Nadu. "During my visit in the end of 2012, I was bowled over by the hospitality and intensely impressed by the liberal milieu and culture of that Gulf country, which I found very different from other Gulf countries I have visited. The novel that came out of that first impression will now be made into a film. The script of the film is titled In the Silver Light and is ready," Balakrishnan said.
Journalist John Brittas will play the lead role in the film. The other main actors are Prathap Pothen, Raveendran, Manoj K. Jayan and Rima Kallingal. "This is my first film abroad. The last one was also based on Balakrishnan's script. When I went for location scouting, I was impressed by the landscapes of Oman. I have not seen a place like this which gives any director a chance to capture the light and shadow," Madhu, the director said.
The movie making will start in January 2014 in various locations in and around Muscat."The discussions have been going on for the last three months. Finally, it is taking off. This is the first Indian movie to be shot 100 per cent in Oman.
"We will try our best to showcase and explore the beauty of Oman's landscape," Renny Jhonson, executive manager at Mezoon Travels, said.
Renny is the line producer of the movie.
