MSM index ends lower amid Al Madina Takaful debut



Muscat: MSM 30 Index ended lower amid Al Madina Takaful's stock market debut and closed at 6761.19 points, down by 0.11 per cent. MSM Shariah Index also closed marginally down by 0.04 per cent at 1085.33 points. 

Al Madina Takaful was the most active in terms of volume as well as turnover, post its first day listing. Al Madina Takaful was the top gainer and closed up by 5.71 per cent, while Al Sharqia Investment was the top loser and closed down by 3.57 per cent.

Altogether 3,985 trades were executed in yesterday's session generating a turnover of OMR10.4 million with over 44.08 million shares traded. Out of 53 traded stocks, 11 advanced, 25 declined and 17 were unchanged. Foreign investors were net buyers to the tune of OMR843,000 worth of shares, followed by GCC & Arab investors at OMR94,000. Omani investors, who were net sellers, sold shares amounting to OMR937,000. 

Financial Sector Index down by 0.25 per cent at 8181.34 points. Al Madina Takaful, Dhofar Insurance, Bank Nizwa, National Bank of Oman and Al Anwar Holding increased by 5.71 per cent, 1.03 per cent, 0.97 per cent, 0.65 per cent and 0.54 per cent respectively. Al Sharqiya Investment, Al Madina Investment, United Finance and Global Financial Investment  declined by 3.57 per cent, 1.92 per cent, 1.32 per cent and 1.24 per cent respectively.

Performance
The Industrial Sector Index down by 0.22 per cent at 10454.88 points.  Raysut Cement, Gulf Mushroom and ASaffa Foods increased by 0.50 per cent, 0.47 per cent and 0.44 per cent respectively. Gulf International Chemicals, National Aluminium, Construction Material, Al Hassan Engineering and Oman Cement declined by1.85 per cent, 1.47 per cent, 1.39 per cent, 1.18 per cent and 0.99 per cent respectively.

Services Sector Index marginally down by 0.03 per cent at 3614.51 points. OIFC and Oman Telecom increased by 0.70 per cent and 0.69 per cent respectively. Al Jazeira Services, Sembcorp Salalah, National Gas, ACWA Power Barka and Shell Oman Marketing  declined by 2.43 per cent, 0.53 per cent, 0.40 per cent, 0.34 per cent and 0.21 per cent respectively.
