Muscat: Six people died and as many others were injured in a series of road crashes on Tuesday, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) said.
Five people died in a road accident in the wilayat of Jazir that also left two others with medium and serious injuries. Civil Defence personnel rushed to the accident site.
Another person was killed when a vehicle collided with a truck in Awafiah area in the wilayat of Bahla.
Meanwhile, two persons sustained medium to severe injuries after two vehicles collided in the wilayat of Khabourah.
In another collision between two vehicles in the wilayat of Bahla, two people sustained medium to serious injuries.
An official at the ROP told the Times of Oman that vehicle collisions were the most common kind of road accidents and also claimed most lives and injuries in 2013.
The official added that most accidents occurred due to the wrong overtaking and over speeding.
According to the World Health Organisation, Oman has the highest road accident fatality rate in the GCC region.
