MSM index ends lower amid high Al Madina Takaful activity

Muscat: MSM 30 Index closed at 6,751.47 points, down by 0.14 per cent. Select buying, especially on Omantel counter, led MSM Shariah Index to end higher at 1,086.59 points, up by 0.12 per cent.

Al Madina Takaful was the most active in terms of volume, while Omantel was the most active in terms of turnover. ACWA Power Barka was the top gainer and closed up by 4.14 per cent. Al Madina Investment was the top loser and closed down by 4.58 per cent. 

Altogether 1,786 trades were executed in yesterday's session generating a turnover of OMR6.73 million with over 22.42 million shares traded. Out of 51 traded stocks, 7 advanced, 25 declined and 19 were unchanged. GCC and Arab investors were net buyers to the tune of OMR499,000 worth of shares, followed by foreign investors at OMR204,000. Omani investors sold shares amounting to OMR703,000. 

Financial Sector Index down by 0.51 per cent at 8139.30 points. National Bank of Oman was the only gainer in the sector and was up by 0.65 per cent to close at 310 baisas. Al Madina Investment, Madina Takaful, ONIC Holding, Al Sharqiya Investment and Global Financial Investment declined by 4.58 per cent, 4.05 per cent, 3.60 per cent, 2.59 per cent and 1.88 per cent respectively. 

Industrial sector
The Industrial Sector Index down by 0.10 per cent at 10444.61 points. Oman Cement was the only gainer and was up by 0.50 per cent to close at 0.804. 

Oman Fisheries, Al Hassan Engineering, National Aluminium Products, Gulf International Chemicals and Al Anwar Ceramic declined by 1.96 per cent, 1.59 per cent, 1 per cent, 0.94 per cent and 0.36 per cent respectively. 

Services Sector Index marginally up by 0.07 per cent at 3614.07 points. OIFC and Oman Telecom increased by 0.70 per cent and 0.69 per cent, respectively. Al Jazeira Services Company, Sembcorp Salalah, National Gas and ACWA Power Barka declined by 2.43 per cent, 0.53 per cent, 0.40 per cent and 0.34 per cent respectively.
