Muscat: The GCC has approved the formation of a unified military command structure and also agreed on the formation of a unified police force.
"The GCC's Supreme Council has agreed on setting up a joint military command and has assigned the Joint Defence Council to take the necessary steps to put this agreement into effect according to the relevant studies," Kuna, the official news agency of Kuwait, reported.
According to the statement, the GCC defence ministers also laid the foundation stone of the coordination centre for maritime security in Bahrain.
On the inter-GCC security, the leaders agreed to form a joint Gulf police force. The leaders have also approved a proposal for setting up the Gulf Academy for Strategic and Security Studies and welcomed the United Arab Emirates proposal to host it. The Council has also given go ahead for completing the project for secure communications.
