Muscat: The Supervisory Committee on the elections of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and the boards of its branches for the period 2014-17 met yesterday at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry premises.
The meeting was chaired by Ahmed bin Hassan Al Dheeb, undersecretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for Commerce and Industry and chairman of the committee.
The meeting discussed the technical and administrative system and readiness for the poll process. The committee decided at its meeting to extend the deadline for corporate data update in the records of OCCI until Sunday.
The meeting approved the forms and records that will be used in the electoral process, in addition to modes of voting in the election, ways of representing or voting on behalf of the electing company or organisation. It details the identification of a representative of specific groups, namely the owner, partner, or those authorised to manage and sign. The person should be an Omani and the authorised persons should represent only one company and they should all be registered in the commercial register.
Al Dheeb said the company's authorised person to manage and sign will not be entitled to vote for more than one company on the election day on Jan. 26, 2014.
He stressed that the Supervisory Committee stated that voting is voluntary for owners of institutions and companies.
He noted that the committee gives the companies and institutions the opportunity to register their representatives for voting according to the system approved by the Minister of Commerce and Industry.
