GCC beat ECT in final match of series

Muscat: Gulf Cricket Centre (GCC) won the final game of the five-match Oman Day Cricket Series, beating visiting Emirates Cricket Training Dubai (ECT Dubai) by 56 runs at the Municipality Ground in Al Amerat yesterday. However, the visiting ECT Dubai boys lifted the trophy after winning the series 4-1.  

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, GCC posted 215 runs for the loss of five wickets in 25 overs.

Vipin Sebastian top scored for the side with 63 not out and Basit Barkat scored 58 runs. Opening batsman Ashwin Suresh scored 40 runs.

For ECT Dubai, medium pace bowler Abdul Ahad claimed two wickets.  

Chasing the target was never easy for the visiting team as they lost wickets at regular intervals and were finally bowled out for 159 runs for the loss of six wickets in 24 overs. Opening batsman Rajat top-scored for ECT Dubai with 38 runs. Basit claimed three wickets and Vipin and Ankit Nath took two wickets each. Basith was declared the man-of-the-match.

Swithin Joseph was declared the man-of-the-series. From ECT Dubai, Sourav was named the best batsman, Abdul Wasay the best bowler, Abdul Ahad was declared the best all-rounder, Claren as best fielder, while the best up-coming player was Vishal. From GCC, Vipin Sebastian was declared the best batsman, Harikrishnan was the best bowler, Basit Barkat was the best all-rounder, Moin Hussain was the best fielder and best up-coming player was Ankit Nath.

Chief guest Amit Sen, head of marketing at the Al Omaniya Financial Services, gave away the prizes to the winners along with Rakesh Kandoja, Airport Manager of Air India, S.A.S. Naqvi, sports consultant of Oman Hockey Association (OHA), Sheikh Khaleem, managing director of Khaleem Enterprises, Oman Cricket (OC) official Ajith D'Costa and Azra Aleem.

Brief score: Gulf Cricket Centre 215 for 5 in 25 overs (Vipin Sebastian 63, Basit Barkat 58, Ashwin Suresh 40, Abdul Ahad 2/37) beat Emirates Cricket Training Dubai 159 for 6 in 24 overs (Rajat 38 runs, Mahadeen Khan 32, Basit 3/24, Vipin 2/24, Ankit 2/13). GCC won by 56 runs.
