Muscat: Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) on Sunday announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to fund the construction of three public majleses in the wilayat of Shaleem and Juzor Al Halaneyat.
The project comes as part of PDO's social investment programme and in line with its continuous commitment to support local communities in the concession area, said a company statement.
PDO External Affairs Director Mundhir bin Salim Al Barwani signed the MoU committing to the project with Sheikh Bakheet bin Salim Al Mashani, Wali of Shaleem and Juzor Al Halaneyat, at a special ceremony held at PDO Oil and Gas Exhibition Centre in Muscat.
On this occasion, Al Barwani said: "the new public Majlises will serve as a very important social hub where local citizens meet during social occasions which will further strengthen social bonds between members of the community"
"Through its social investment programme, the company has always supported projects that lead to sustainable benefits to neighbouring communities and assist them progress and prosper. These public Majlises are in line with this vision," he added.
Sheikh Bakheet bin Salim Al Mashani hailed PDO's contribution which compliment the company's policy to strengthen partnership with the local community and its principle of corporate social responsibility. He valued PDO's engagement with various authorities to understand community needs and identify projects that benefit the largest social groups possible.
The wali also noted the diversity in PDO's social contributions to cover different aspects of community needs which will compliment and support government efforts throughout the country and in the wilayat of Shaleem and Juzor al Halanyat in particular.
