Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said will preside on Thursday over the Annual Royal Horse Race Festival at Madinat Al A'diyat in the wilayat of Seeb.
The festival will be also attended by Their Highnesses, the Chairmen of the State Council and the Majlis Al Shura, ministers, advisers, commanders of the Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF), Royal Oman Police (ROP), members of the State Council and Majlis Al Shura, undersecretaries, ambassadors, heads of the diplomatic missions accredited to the Sultanate, judges, senior officers and equestrian fans.
The festival will include six rounds. Five of them are allocated for the pure Arabian horses and one for thoroughbreds.
The first round 'Race of Wadi Naheez' is allocated for pure Arabian horses (1,100 metres). The second round 'Race of Wadi Fida' for thoroughbreds (1,600 metres). The third round 'Race of Wadi Indam' is allocated for the pure Arabian horses (1,600 meters) and 'The Fegentri Cup' for female amateur jockeys from different countries of the world.
The fourth round 'Race of Wadi Bani Khalid' is allocated for pure Arabian horses for (1,600 metres). This round is allocated for the horses that top the rank in the races of the season. The fifth round 'Race of Wadi Al Abiyadh' is for pure Arabian horses for (1,100 metres). The sixth round 'Race of Wadi Dhaiqah' is allocated for pure Arabian horses for (2,000 metres for His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said's Cup.
The festival also includes performances which will be of interest to the equestrian fans. This year the most prominent programme is a march titled 'Years Are Prosperous With You' and triple 'Ardha' show. The programmes also include tent pegging, hurdle jumping and a carriage dragged by 36 horses.
Shows by international equestrian teams will also add attraction.
Through this annual festival the Royal Cavalry seeks to introduce new things and maintain the ancient heritage of Oman.
Male and female riders of the Royal Cavalry and Royal Household Troops, the Royal Guard of Oman (RGO) and school students will present these shows.
