Dar Al Hanan, a home to care for children suffering from cancer, on Sunday celebrated the third anniversary of its establishment with its volunteers, supervisors and supporters in attendance in its premises in Bausher.
Yuthar Al Rawahy, president of Oman Cancer Association (OCA), along with her team working for Dar Al Hanan, its children and their parents, cut the cake to mark the third anniversary of its establishment.
It was followed by a series of activities in which the children participated by painting and doing some plantation.
Yuthar Al Rawahy told the Times of Oman that Dar Al Hanan, which means 'Home for Care and Love', was established as an initiative of OCA to serve as a temporary home for children with cancer.
It was established in close proximity of the Royal Hospital and worked as a referral process in coordination with the paediatric oncology department of the hospital, she said. Dar Al Hanan is serving as a temporary home for children from outside the Muscat governorate, hailing from various nationalities, undergoing outpatient treatment for cancer, and their families. So far, around 200 children have availed its services.
The facility can accommodate 16 children along with their parents at one time.
Dar Al Hanan is offering meals and lodging facility for patients and their families and other related facilities. But unfortunately, this centre is being run in a rented building and the requirement is growing, she said.
The facility still does not have its own building. It pays rent for the premises and pays salaries to some of the young professionals since it requires their services, said Al Rawahy.
She lauded those who come forward with voluntarily support for the cause. She said the centre needs resources to run and expand it and looks forward for support from the private sector.
Erika Anggreini, public relations manager of the Al Bustan Palace Hotel, said that a team of her hotel participates in the activities of Dar Al Hanan which needs support in whatever way possible. A team of the hotel always participates in the activities of Dar Al Hanan to show moral support to its cause and objectives.
