Muscat: A group of students from the University of Arizona, USA, visited the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) on 8 January, 2014 as part of their tour of Oman in connection with their international journalism fieldwork.
Dr Ali bin Saud Al Bimani, the Vice Chancellor of the Sultan Qaboos University, received in his office these students who are majoring in journalism, tourism and political science. The US students will spend 11 days in Oman, shooting videos and conducting interviews on the cultural and social aspects of the country. The videos and interviews will cover Omani architects, city planners and residents.
As part of their tour, the students are visiting historic forts, palaces and souqs. Tourism activities include sand skiing in the desert, scuba diving, surfing and sailing, trekking, cave exploration, bird watching and camel races.
Ali Al Bimani welcomed the student delegation and underscored the idea of having more student exchanges between the two universities. They discussed the academic programmes offered by the university.
The objectives of this visit included introducing American students to the Arab world, facilitate a deeper understanding about Arabs and how to work as a journalist in different countries.
