Muscat: To mark the Earth Hour 2014, the Environment Society of Oman (ESO) is challenging budding artists to create a unique art work for a poster themed 'Our Earth, Our Hour' highlighting the simple everyday changes that can make a big difference to the environment by saving energy.
The contest, which began on January 8 and will close on January 29, invites designers to submit their artwork and win a chance for their designs to become the main icon for this year's campaign and thus have it displayed across the country to promote Earth Hour 2014 and win exciting prizes along the way.
The competition offers people the opportunity to use their imagination to express their appreciation for Oman's natural habitat and take part in the global challenge to conserve resources for the welfare of the planet.
It is far more than a design; the challenge is to inspire more people in Oman to come together and take notice of the small things they can do to protect the environment through saving energy.
The winner will have the chance to see their designs take centre stage nationally, leading up to the event; in papers, hoardings and posters for the earth hour campaign. The winner will also be featured in an interview with a leading media outlet on his or her contribution to the campaign along with being featured in the ESO's annual report.
Earth Hour 2014 will be observed on March 29 with individuals, communities and organisations around the world pledging support for energy conservation and green activities through their yearly campaign 'I will, if you will'.
The campaign aims to encourage positive action for the environment beyond the celebrated hour. What makes it special is that it empowers individual or community or organisation — to share their commitment to the planet with friends, family, colleagues, fans or even a whole nation.
Entries can be submitted as sketches, illustrations, graphic designs or photographs in JPEG or PNG format and no larger than 2MB in size. All submissions should be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org, accompanied by the artist's name, date of birth, contact telephone number and a 200-word summary to explain the concept behind the design.
