Muscat: The Criminal Court of Muscat, presided over by Judge Yusif Al Fulaiti, heard the case in which the Public Prosecution charged a manager at a leading petroleum company with misusing his power.
The accused had allegedly leased his real estate property to a technical services company at a high rent.
The Public Prosecution pleaded with the court to impose severe penalty on the accused and permanently ban him from holding any public office.
The accused denied all the allegations. The case has been adjourned to February 23.
Construction company case
In another case, the Public Prosecution accused the head of a Tender Committee at a leading oil company of accepting an OMR100,000 bribe from a leading construction company in lieu of approving the tender for Ameen concession oil field. The defence lawyer refuted the charges and objected to the rough treatment being meted out to his client in jail and complained that he was not even being allowed to contact his family. The accused is facing five more cases of bribery.
The judge, Yusif Al Fulaiti, allowed the accused to meet with his family as per regulations.
On his part, Faisal Al Rashdi, the Public Prosecution representative, demanded harsh punishment for the accused and a lifelong ban on him from holding any public office. He also pleaded the court to order confiscation of all the money found in his house. Al Rashdi also demanded harsh punishment for the managing director of the leading construction company.
The accused denied all allegations, describing the charges as baseless, and narrated before the judge the services he had rendered to the company. The case has been adjourned to next month.
