State Council approves formation of special committee to study expat labour legislation

Muscat: The State Council on Tuesday held its fourth session of the third annual sitting of the fifth term, chaired by Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh al-Manthri, Chairman of the State Council.

At the beginning of the meeting, The Chairman of the State Council said that the agenda of the fourth session includes a number of topics, mainly the draft law regulating the profession of nursing and its report, submitted by the Social Committee and the discussion of a proposal of the special committee on "Reviewing the Rules Governing Investment of Pension Funds" and its report, in addition to approving the formation of a special committee to study the legislation governing expats labour.

The Council also discussed a proposal about the desire of the social committee to develop a draft law for regularizing nursing profession. The draft law will highlight the rights and obligations, the legal responsibility for all stakeholders in the health process and ensure the required coordination among the different respective health sectors. The State Council approved this proposal.

The Council also approved a proposal on "Reviewing the Rules Governing Investment of Pension Funds" and its report, in addition to approving the formation of a special committee to study the legislation governing expats labour and to discuss expatriate absconding.

The meeting also reviewed the report of the Secretariat General on the activities of the State Council for the period between the third and fourth regular meetings of third annual sitting of the fifth term, as well as other topics on which it took appropriate decisions.
