Muscat: Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran), the Sultanate government's tourism development and investment arm, is planning to open two major hotels by April this year.
These are Jabal Akhdar – Alila Resort, a five-star boutique resort with 86 rooms on the cliffs of Jabal Akhdar – and Musandam Resort, a three-star facility with 110 rooms.
Jabal Akhdar Alila Resort is in the final stage of completion and it will open for guest by April, said Abdul Wahid Al Farsi, vice-president – external affairs - Omran. He was presenting a paper on the status of various Omran projects at the Oman Construction Summit here on Monday.
"This is going to be operated by Alila Hotels and Resorts of Singapore," he added.
The new boutique hotel, which is 250-kms away from Muscat, will cater to the growing need for hotels rooms at the hill station as there are only two major hotels to cater to the demand of tourists now. The work on Jabal Akhdar – Alila Resort started in January 2012 and the facility will have all day restaurant, fitness centre, spa, swimming pool, business centre and meeting facilities.
Al Farsi also said that Musandam Resort, which is a three-star resort hotel with 110 rooms, will open for guest in April. He said the construction for building the hotel started in March, 2012. "The hotel is mainly aimed at families who visit Musandam."
Al Farsi added that the Rotana Hotel in Salalah, which is a joint venture with Muriya of Orascom (Egypt) and part of Salalah Beach facility, is complete and it is expected to open for guests by the end of the first quarter of this year.
Plans are also afoot to build Al Baleed Resort, which is a joint venture with Musteer of MB Group. The resort, located adjacent to the Al Baleed World Heritage archeological site in Salalah, will feature 106 bedroom chalets and the main hotel will have 30 guest rooms.
Duqm Frontier Town
Referring to Duqm Frontier Town, which is a joint venture with Duqm Development Company, he said the second phase is currently under master planning and detailed feasibility study stage. The plan in the second phase is for a mix-use development covering 29 hectares and includes about 527 residential units, a mosque, a school and a shopping mall with hyper market and entertainment facilities. Duqm Frontier Town is the first planned community in Duqm region.
The first phase of Duqm Frontier Town, he said, was handed over to Oman Dry Dock Company last year. The first phase covers 23 hectares and consists of 250 furnished apartments, 94 furnished villas and a club house, with infrastructure and amenities.
