Muscat: Four Omani nationals died in a traffic accident in Riyadh while eight others sustained medium to serious injuries and are recovering in the hospitals, Oman's ambassador to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Ahmed bin Hilal Al Busaidi, confirmed in an interview.

While speaking to Oman national television, the Omani ambassador expressed his grief over the incident and sent his condolences to the families involved in the accident.

"The accident occurred when a microbus with 12 passengers on board, including an Ethiopian national who is working as a housemaid in Oman, lost control and collided into two trailers resulting in the instant death of four passengers. Eight other passengers sustained injuries," Ahmed Al Busaidi said in an interview with the national television. He added that three women and a man died in the accident. The injured were rushed to nearest hospitals with most of them in Al Qu`aiyah hospital near Riyadh.

"Most of the injured are in stable condition and some have even left the hospital," the Omani envoy told the television station. Al Busaidi also confirmed that they are now working to find a way to move the bodies from the hospitals near the Saudi capital to Riyadh in order to transfer them to Oman.

"This might happen on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning," the Omani ambassador to the kingdom said.

Earlier this week, a similar accident took place in Al Hofuf, Saudi Arabia, in a road crash when the 4WD they were travelling in crashed into another car. The Omanis were in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.

The Omani ambassador advised people not to drive long distances without taking any rest. He suggested families making long trips to have more than one driver to help in driving.
