Muscat: The prestigious 'Toyota-GCC Top Management Meeting' was held for the first time in Oman, yesterday. Flying in from all over the GCC region and Japan were the GCC distributors and high-ranking officials from Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan, including Mr. Hisayuki Inoue, Chief Officer and Mr. Koji Nagata, General Manager.
During the deliberations, the Toyota team reviewed the environment around the Toyota business with a special focus on Toyota's global success as well as its standing in the GCC. Future growth strategies were also outlined and discussed.
Dwelling on the resilience and strong performance of Toyota Motor Corporation, it was highlighted that despite the last few years being most challenging for Toyota mainly due to the global meltdown, strong Yen and the devastating earthquake/tsunami, Toyota has rebounded strongly and is now all set to notch-up record sales globally, this year.
Toyota's stellar performance is a reflection of its focus on quality, unflinching customer loyalty and above all, the strong leadership of Mr. Akio Toyoda, President, Toyota Motor Corporation.
TMC officials expressed their appreciation for the excellent performance of the GCC Distributors, who in turn, thanked Toyota for their wholehearted support. The GCC is one of the most important markets for Toyota, where it has one of the highest market shares, globally, on the strength of its wide range and especially its iconic favourites Land Cruiser, Hilux, Corolla and Camry. The growth prospects for Toyota in the region are very strong as the GCC economies continue to grow steadily with buoyant oil prices, huge investments in several mega-projects and strong emphasis on employment generation for the local population, all of which will further fuel automobile demand.
Drawing attention to the challenges confronting Toyota, the officials highlighted the growing competition and more demanding customers. The officials also outlined Toyota's multi-sourcing strategy to offset the strengthening of the Yen.
The deliberations also focused on youth, since the GCC has a very young population. To target this group effectively, it is important to enhance Toyota brand values - Quality, Dependability and Reliability and at the same time to introduce youthful, exciting and energetic vehicles. Various measures are being taken for the Toyota brand enhancement and these include a host of new model launches in the near future.
The participants unanimously agreed that customer satisfaction activities are of topmost priority. Toyota Motor Corporation & the Distributors discussed strategies to exceed all customer expectations, including continuing investments in infrastructure & customer care.
The successful launch of the New Face of Lexus – complete with the new spindle grille, new technologies and a host of new models was applauded for creating a bold, new identity.
At the evening function, Sheikh Mohammed Saud Bahwan, Chairman, Saud Bahwan Group, summed-up the day's proceedings and thanked TMC and the Distributors, "The future prospects for the automotive market in GCC are even brighter though there will be challenges. However, I am sure that the deliberations of today's Meeting, coupled with TMC's constant guidance & support, will help us to further strengthen Toyota in our region.

The grand finale of the highly successful Meeting was the special evening event held at Seblat Al Bustan, where the delegates enjoyed traditional Omani hospitality in the unique setting of a typical Omani village.
