Tokyo:Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi will deliver a televised address to the nation on Thursday, an aide to the leader said, following overnight clashes that killed five protesters. Morsi would reach out to the opposition and call for dialogue, said the senior aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity, without being specific about any concrete proposals. "There are several ideas being discussed," the official said.
Opponents of Morsi are demanding that he rescind a presidential decree that gave him extraordinary powers and scrap a December 15 referendum on a draft constitution opposed by many liberals and Christians.
Bloody clashes that erupted on Wednesday and carried on through the night were the most violent between the Islamist Morsi's supporters and his secular-leaning opposition since his election in June.
