Muscat: Muscat Cricket Team registered a historic three wicket win against a strong Assarain team in a Muscat Pharmacy & Stores LLC sponsored 50 overs a side A Division match played on Thursday on the Main Ministry Ground at Al Amerat. Prior to the start of the match, both teams and officiating umpires were introduced to the Chief Guest Kanak Khimji, chairman Oman Cricket, as well as to board members and other dignitaries.
Kanak Khimji spun the coin with the Muscat skipper, Hemal Mehta, calling correctly and electing to field. Assarain openers Zeeshan Maqsood 47 and Arun Poulose 21 started off slowly, putting together 62 runs for the first wicket off 12.2 overs. Arun Poulose was first to go, with Hemal Mehta batting stubbornly to be seventh out. The only other batsman to offer any resistance thereafter was Mohammed Nadeem, remaining unbeaten on 32, to help the score to 145 off 44.1 overs.
The bowlers to be among the wickets were skipper Hemal Mehta 2 for 5, Karan Pandya 2 for 22 and Munis Ansari 2 for 28. Muscat, in reply, lost the first two wickets with 11 runs on the board, but recovered to reach 146 for the loss of seven wickets, thanks to an unbeaten 53 from Adnan Ilyas coming two down. Others making valuable contributions were opening batsman Mohammed Asad Ali 31 and Hemal Mehta 24. The total included 24 wides. Mohammed Nadeem was the pick of the bowlers, ending with figures of 4 for 27 off 10 overs. The defeat was Assarain's first during the season.

Bilal Khan dazzles
In the second match at the newly laid turf strip at Al Amerat, with bowling figures of 4 for 27 off 6.4 overs, Bilal Khan helped Passage to India register a 30 run win against Al Turki NMC. The Muscat Pharmacy & Stores LLC sponsored 50 over A Division match was played on Friday at the same venue. Invited to bat first, Passage to India was tottering at 74 for the loss of six wickets with opening batsman Arthur Kyobe chipping in with 22.
A top score of 47 from skipper Rajesh Kumar P. coming in at the fall of the fourth wicket, and useful contributions from Abdulahad Malek 37 and Jaymin Tailor 24, helped take the score to 176 at the end of 50 overs. Skipper Ajay Lalcheta recorded the first five wicket haul on the turf strip, conceding 32 runs off 10 overs, one of which was a maiden over. With slow outfields and prevailing conditions, Al Turki NMC was bowled out for 146 off 44.4 overs with only Joshil Sukani 50 and Twinkle Bhandari 32 making any noteworthy contributions.

Opening batsman Shahid Naseem smashed an unbeaten 140 to help Times of Oman crush Enhance by three wickets in another Muscat Pharmacy & Stores LLC sponsored 50 over A Division match played at the Ministry Ground No.1. Electing to bat Enhance was bowled out for 238 off 47.5 overs thanks to a brilliant 86 from opening batsman Noorul Riaz. The other major contributions came from skipper Muthupandian P. 40 and Parth Trivedi 37. Aamir Hussain was the pick of the bowlers, ending with figures of 4 for 54 with support from Mohammed Nadeem, 3 for 36, and Masthan Basha, 2 for 34.
Times of Oman, in reply aided by Shahid Naseem's century and a useful 27 from Awal Khan, reached 239 for the loss of seven wickets off 42.4 overs. Kunal Pandya picked up three wickets, giving away 45 runs off 10 overs, one of which was a maiden over.
