Muscat: Kannur Engineers in Oman (KEO), in association with Oman Society of Engineers (OSE) and IEEE Oman Chapter, recently organised a technical seminar on 'Protection Practices in Electric Utilities' at City Seasons Hotel, Al Khuwair. The seminar saw the participation of 150 delegates from various government and private companies and institutions apart from contractors and consultants.
Ali Al Hadabi, general manager, OETC inaugurated the seminar. Dr. Ahammed Al Naamani, Chairman, IEEE and board member of OSE and Milan Maksimovic, general manager, Energo Project Entel LLC offered felicitations.
The main facilitator of the seminar Dr. Varadarajan, senior consultant in Protection System, Energoprojekt Entel, shed light on evolution of protective relays, protection practices in electric utilities, modern digital relays, communication aspects of protective relays and recent trends in protection practices. The open discussion, which followed the seminar, served as a platform for interaction and clarification.
The organizing committee released a technical diary for electrical engineers during the function. Dr. Ahammed Al Naamani received the first copy from Ahmed bin Saif Khamis Al Mazrouy, general manager, Majan Electricity Company.
Companies like L&T, RIBE, Majan Electricity Company, Galfar, RAY International, SFO, Arabian Industries, AMRAN CPSS, ONEIC, Caledonian College, Development Services, SEL and UEP supported the programme. Hon. Ministers from the government of India and State Government of Kerala and principal of Kannur Engineering College also extended their support and wishes for the event.
KEO, the Oman chapter of the alumni association of the Government College of Engineering, Kannur, office-bearers said they would conduct a series of technical events in association with OSE, including seminars, workshops, technical book publication in various engineering disciplines, for the benefit of local and expatriate engineering professionals in Oman.
