Former Iranian diplomat Nosratollah Tajik who was under house arrest in the United Kingdom for six years, arrived yesterday night in Muscat after the government of Oman successfully secured his release.
Tajik, 59, who was arrested in 2006 in Britain after being accused of arms dealing, recently .
"I am grateful to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said for his efforts as well as many Omani government officials for negotiating my release," Tajik told reporters immediately after his arrival at Muscat Airport.
Tajik arrived last night, flying to Muscat on an Omani air force plane, from Britain. The academic claimed he had been the victim of an international diplomatic row.
"I am a victim of something which I know nothing about that took me away from my family for six long years. This shows how the United States still continues its agenda of spreading hatred to the people of Iran," Tajik said in his address to the Omani media.
He also said that he was planning to sue the US government for his "engineered arrest."
"I am going to sue the US government for the sting operation and the deterioration of my health," Tajik added.
He said he would take time off before deciding his future.
"I might write a book about my ordeal and return back to the diplomatic mission after I
had a rest."
Tajik, a former Iranian ambassador to Jordan who was an honorary fellow of Durham University in the UK, was arrested when agents of the US Department of Homeland security posed as arms dealers selling night-vision goggles.
