Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud Al Busaidi, undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior and Chairman of the Main Committee for Municipal Council Elections, has said that the elections process was smooth in the different wilayats of the Sultanate.
He said the voters started pouring into the election centres by 7am. He added that this election witnessed the introduction of the e-voting system, which was used last Saturday in voting at the Sultanate's embassies in the GCC countries.
The system has also been used at the election centre which was established in Muscat Governorate for Dhofar and Musandam governorate voters residing in Muscat.
Voters from these two governorates cast their votes at this centre to select their candidates.
The official also affirmed that the e-voting system had proved to be efficient and accurate and the trend is to use this system more in the future elections.
He said that all systems were in place to ensure the success of the elections and all election committees were well prepared for
He also pointed out that mobile electronic units were utilised at the election centres during the voting process to enable those voters to cast their ballots who had not fixed the e-system in their ID cards. This enables them to cast their votes. All voters who cast their votes will be given fully paid leave.
The official said the initial indicators of the sorting out process would be aired live at the website of the Municipal Council elections. Smartphone holders may also review these indicators through the direct link, www.voting.election.gov.om. The Sultanate of Oman TV will also provide live transmission of the election process and through the link at the YouTube.
Al Busaidi lauded the cooperation of voters with the committees working in the election process and thanked the workers for their contribution to the success of the election process.
The official also thanked the local and international media that covered the election process
