Chandrabindoo musical show on Jan. 31

Muscat: The alumni of Bengal Engineering and Science University are all set to charm the music lovers of Muscat with yet another musical journey with the illustrious Bengali musical band, Chandrabindoo.

Chandrabindoo is one of the most intellectual and most popular Bengali music bands in Kolkata and is well known for its burlesque, conversational lyrics related to current affairs and cultural phenomena. It also spellbinds its audience with various other musical multifariousness. Starting their musical career in 1998, this band has travelled a long way and has now achieved immense popularity both nationally and internationally. They have also performed in aid of the Kolkata based Child in Need Institute (CINI) in London.

The band members performing in Muscat are Anindya Chatterjee (singer/music composer/lead vocal), Upal Sengupta(singer/music composer/lead vocal), Arup Poddar (bassist), Surojit Mukherjee (guitarist/arranger), Rajshekhar Kundu (drummer), Sibabrata Biswas (keyboardist), Sourabh (percussionist), Tirthankar (sound engineer).

Chandrabindoo, has cheered its fans with numerous albums like Aar Janina, Gadha, Twaker Jotno Neen, Juju, Hulabila, just to name a few. It has contributed its sagacity to the Bengali film industry as well with their compositions, lyrics and playback singing. Box office hits like Cross Connection, Brakefail, Box No 1313, Antaheen (which won the 56th National Film Award for Best Lyrics), and Rang Milanti are among the many films which have achieved wide acclaim.

BESU (Bengal Enginering and Science University) at Shibpur, Howrah, is the second oldest and a premier engineering institute in India. The university at present offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programmes in nine engineering disciplines and four non-engineering disciplines.

On February 3, 2005 BECAA - Oman Chapter was convened for the first time. Since then the alumni in Oman has successfully organised a number of events like cultural programmes, adda sessions, annual picnics, friendly cricket matches with alumni of Jadavpur University, etc. In addition to all these, it has strived and is still continuing its drive to collect funds for scholarships, membership drive for GAA, and signature campaign for IIT status of BESU. In its desire to further the cause of its alma mater, the alumni decided to entertain the people of this city of Muscat every year with renowned artistes of various genres. In 2006 Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty captured the hearts of hundreds of music lovers with his classical and semi classical songs at the Al Bustan Palace auditorium.

Then there were performances by Nandikar and Mamata Shankar. The alumni beguiled the theatre lovers last year with Cholo Potol Tuli by Charbak and Bhoomi another prominent band of the Bengali music industry towards the end of 2010.
Each of these programmes were entirely non commercial in nature and were funded by the alumni and by the well wishers of this esteemed institute.

The musical voyage with Chandrabindoo will be hosted at the Al Bustan Palace auditorium Muscat on January 31, 2013.
