Muscat: A total 592 workers were charged with violating the Labour Law during the period January 5 to 18. Of these violators, 386 were commercial workers, 73 farm workers and 133 housemaids, information released by the Ministry of Manpower's Joint Inspection Team showed.
The official statistics also showed that over 188 workers were on the run from their sponsors (absconding workers); 223 were stray workers and 140 workers had been transferred from other departments.
Muscat Governorate registered the highest number of arrested workers with 299, followed by South and North Al Batinah Governorates with 112 workers. The Ministry of Manpower is initiating legal action against those arrested.
The ministry has also initiated deportation proceedings against 379 workers for flouting the official regulations.
