Muscat: A meeting was held yesterday at Mua'askar Al Murtafa'ah for the setting up of Oman Ammunition Production Company under the chairmanship of Mohammed bin Nasser Al Rasbi, undersecretary of the Ministry of Defence and Chairman of the BoD. The meeting reviewed a number of issues related to the company and its future plans.
Al Rasbi said in a statement after the meeting, "The project comes in response to the Royal orders of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, regarding setting up a factory for the production of ammunitions of light arms. The establishment of Oman Ammunition Production Company was made through a contribution by the pension funds for the military and security apparatuses.
"The project aims at meeting the needs of SAF and security forces for light ammunition which will be produced here. A contract will soon be signed with the French company Manurhin as a strategic partner for the project. The consultant tender for the establishment of the said factory will be floated soon, he added.
