Muscat: Heavy snow in Europe has forced flights to and from the Sultanate of Oman to be delayed on Monday. According to OAMC, Oman Air flights to Frankfurt were delayed while its flight to Zurich was rescheduled following heavy snowfall in some parts of Europe.
It was learnt that hundreds of flights were cancelled at Germany's busiest airport due to heavy snow on Monday. Altogether, 250 flights were cancelled on Monday, following 445 cancellations on Sunday.
Dubai carrier Emirates also grounded its flight between Dubai and Paris on Monday while its another flight from Frankfurt to Dubai was unable to depart due to adverse weather conditions. Another Emirates flight, which was due to travel to and from London Heathrow, was re-routed to Gatwick because of the weather conditions.
It is learnt that both London Heathrow and Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris have issued compulsory capacity restrictions.A spokesman for Heathrow Airport said 10 per cent of its flights were cancelled although that figure could increase if visibility deteriorated further,
Domestic flights were usually the first to be cancelled, he said. Meanwhile, Etihad Airways said early morning congestion at Frankfurt forced it to divert flights to Munich.
