Muscat: The Omani-UAE Business Council on Monday held its fourth meeting in Sohar to discuss means of enhancing the economic, commercial and investment cooperation between the two countries.
The Council stressed on elimination of all hindrances for smooth trade and tourism traffic on the border points.
The Omani delegation was led by Khalil bin Abdullah Al Khonji, Chairman of OCCI while the UAE team was led by Mohammed Thani Mirshid Al Rumaithi, Chairman of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Al Khonji said that the meeting discussed the smooth traffic of trade at the land check points, rolling out the standard tourist visa at all land check points in the UAE and the Sultanate to benefit from the existing experience with Dubai. This would facilitate access of tourists between the two countries and attract more visitors.
Al Khonji added that the two sides proposed to establish a joint tourism venture. The Oman-Emirates Investment Company will prepare a study on the subject and invest in it. They also agreed to organize a biannual investment forum in alternation between the two countries.
He welcomed the Sultanate's hosting of the first forum for investment opportunities between the two brotherly countries which aims at promoting available investment opportunities.
On his part, Mohammed Thani Mirshid al-Rumaithi, Chairman of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the UAE and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry praised the efforts made by the investment, transporatation and borders committee at the Businessmen Council which eliminated all the difficulties. The recommendations will be raised to the higher joint committee between the two brotherly countries.
Afterwards, the members of the Omani-UAE Businessmen Council visited Sohar Port and were briefed by Eng. Jamal bin Tawfiq Aziz, Deputy CEO of Sohar Industrial Port Company and CEO of Sohar Free Zone on the available investment opportunities and the incentives provided at the Port and the free zone.
