Muscat: Adam airport, one of the four regional airports under development, has been handed over to the military (Defence Department) due to lack of prospects for marketing it for making it a commercially feasible airport for civilian purpose.
"As of this week, Adam is no longer a civilian airport. We are transferring everything we constructed to the military. However, a VVIP building will be built at the airport," said Salim Al Aufi, Chief Executive Officer of Public Authority for Civil Aviation.
He said the decision was taken after taking into consideration the fact that it will be difficult to market the airport.
Tourist preference
"We have pressed really hard to find market for the airport. Since it is close to Muscat (two to two and half hours drive from Muscat), tourists prefer to come to Muscat rather than Adam," he added.
