NBO emerge E Division champions

Muscat: The National Bank of Oman (NBO) clinched the Arabian Industries-sponsored E Division title with a 46-run win against Arrow Overseas in a 25 overs-a-side match played in the morning during the weekend at the Municipality Ground No.4 at Al Amerat.

Electing to bat, NBO scored 185 for the loss of 7 wickets off their quota of 25 overs, thanks to a solid 81 (52b, 1x6, and 10x4) from opening batsman Abhishek Prafull. None of the other batsmen made any noteworthy contributions.

Prithwi Raj picked up 2 wickets, conceding 28 runs off 5 overs.
Arrow Overseas, during their turn, was bowled out for 139 off 19 overs, with contributions from Monty Navani, 36 (26b, 4x4); Praveen P., 33 (30b, 3x4); and opening batsman Mohammed Ali, who chipped in with 21 (16b, 2x6, and 1x4).

Muhammad Saeed was the pick of the bowlers, ending with figures of 4 for 31 off 5 overs, with support from Rana Zeeshan and skipper Punit Mehta, bagging 2 wickets each and conceding 22 and 36 runs, respectively.

Atkins runners-up
In another Arabian Industries-sponsored E Division match played at Ground No.3 at Al Amerat, Atkins registered a 28-run win against Carillion Alawi to claim the runner-up position.

Deciding to bat, Atkins amassed 203 for the loss of 7 wickets at the end of the 25 overs, thanks to an opening partnership of 71 runs between Shamas Rana, 57 (30b, 3x6, and 7x4), and his partner skipper Jayaprakash N.D., 27 (22b). Other major contributors were made by No.7 batsman Yadav Amol, 39 Not Out (24b, 1x6, and 3x4), and Shehbaz Nasar, 28 (26b).

Skipper Sharon Sebastian picked up 3 wickets, giving away 31 runs off 5 overs, whilst Omani player Issam Othman and Murtuza Ismail bagged 2 wickets each, conceding 21 and 22 runs, respectively, off 3 overs each.  

Requiring 204 runs for a win, Carillion Alawi, after being docked an over for slow over rates and after being awarded 6 penalty runs for the late arrival of their opponents, lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 175 off 23 overs. Major contributors were Murtuza Ismail, 45 (30b, 7x4); opening batsman Inderjith Baitha, 39 (36b, 6x4); Nasib Singh, 23 (23b, 4x4); and Bashir Saheb, 23 (14b, 3x4).

Arafath shines
Aided by a brilliant 112 (75b, 1x6, and 16x4) from opening batsman Arafath Ahmed, Solanki Trading recorded a 41-run win against Excellent Electricals to book a berth by virtue of a better run rate in the semifinals of the G Division tournament organised by Oman Cricket. Invited to bat by their opponents, Solanki Trading scored 212 runs for the loss of 6 wickets off the 25 allotted overs. Omani cricketer Ahmed Mohammed chipped in with 37 (17b, 2x6, and 3x4), whilst skipper Waseem Solanki, who opened the batting,
made 24 (22b, 4x4).

The bowlers amongst the wickets were M.D. Malik and Edwin Anand, who claimed 2 wickets each, conceding17 and 33 runs, respectively.

Set a target of 213 for victory, Excellent Electricals, who was awarded 12 penalty runs for the late arrival of their opponents, was bowled out for 171 off 23.3 overs, thanks to a top score of 82 (41b, 1x6, and 10x4) from Binu Varghese.

Solanki Trading, by finishing second in the G Division Group 'A,' will play Attic Outdoors, toppers of 'G' Division Group 'B,' in the second semifinal of the G Division during the afternoon session on Friday at the University Grounds at Al Khoud. Al Hashim Projects, finishing at the top of the G Division Group A, will meet the runner-up of Group B, Muscat Electronics, during the morning session at the University Ground at Al Khoud on Friday.

Brief scores: Solanki Trading  212 for the loss of 6 wickets off 25 overs (Arafath Ahmed 112, Ahmed Mohammed 37, and Waseem Solanki 24; M.D. Malik 2/17 and Edwin Anand 2/33) beat Excellent Electricals  171 all out off 23.3 overs (Binu Varghese 82; Ahmed Arshad 3/26 and Waseem Ali 3/36). Assarain unbeaten
Aided by a brilliant 143 runs in an opening partnership between Muhammed Naseem, 83 (42b, 3x6, and 11x4), and Vishwanath Bhaskar, 62 (50b, 10x4), Assarain 'B' registered a 24-run win against Times of Oman 'B' in an Enhance-sponsored F Division Group 'A' match played at the University Ground at Al Khoud.

Deciding to take the first strike, Assarain 'B' scored a colossal 245 runs for the loss of 4 wickets off their quota of 25 overs, with all its top-order batsmen scoring runs. Skipper Ranjith Nair, batting at No.3, scored 37 (28b, 5x4), and No.4 batsman Hafiz Arfan made an unbeaten 33 (23b, 3x4).

Times of Oman 'B,' during their turn, started off well, with openers Shahid Mahmood Moghal, 54 (34b, 1x6, and 6x4), and his partner Ramesh Nair K., 36 (32b, 6x4), putting together 83 runs off 9.3 overs. Further contributions came from Waqas Manzoor Hussain, batting at No.6 and making a cameo with 26 (14b, 3x6, and 1x4), and No.7 batsman skipper Sachinlal S.L., who scored 21 (22b, 1x6, and 2x4), responding with 221 runs for the loss of 7 wickets at the end of 25 overs.

By virtue of this win, Assarain B topped the points table for F Division Group A and will meet OUA, the runner-up from F Division Group 'B,' in the first semifinal on Fridayat the OAC 3 ground.

Times of Oman B, which finished as the runner-up for F Division Group A, will clash with Sarco, which finished at the top of F Division Group B, in the second semifinal of the F Division on Friday at the same venue in the afternoon session.

Tamil Wing lose
Oasis Water defeated ISC Tamil Wing by a narrow 12 runs in another Enhance-sponsored F Division Group 'A' match played in the afternoon at the same venue .

Batting first after winning the toss, Oasis Water was bowled out for 169 off 22.1 overs, with No.4 batsman Shibin chipping in with 44 (42b, 5x4), whilst No.3 batsman Kannan delivered 33 (28b, 3x4) and opening batsman Nazar delivered 26 (16b, 5x4).

The bowling honours were shared by V. Giridharan, who picked up a hat trick, conceding 33 runs off 5 overs; P. Bala Subramanian, who claimed 3 wickets for 36 runs; and Pushparaj Manoharan with 2 wickets for 31 runs.

ISC Tamil Wing, in response, was bowled out for 157 off 23.3 overs, with only openers Raja Gunasekar, 43 (40b), and partner Pushparaj Manoharan, 37 (25b), being associated in a 68-run partnership off 7.4 overs.

Sriram took 3 wickets for 16 runs off 5 overs.

Anil shines

Anil Kulkarni, with magnificent bowling figures of 5 wickets for 18 runs off 4 overs, helped Tile Marine record a huge 128-run win against Oman Orix Leasing. The Enhance-sponsored 'F' Division Group A match was played in the afternoon at the OAC Ground
No.3 at Seeb.

Electing to bat, Tile Marine, playing with 10-men, scored a huge 226 runs for the loss of 6 wickets at the end of 25 overs, with two valuable partnerships. Anup Rajan, coming in at the fall of the first wicket, scored 47 (33b, 7x4), and together with Karinattu M.R., batting at No.4 and making 38 (42b, 4x4), the duo were associated in a partnership of 97 runs. A further 53-run partnership was made for the sixth wicket between Muhammed Nejim, batting at No.7 and making an unbeaten 33 (18b, 5x4), and No.6 batsman Sujash Rasheed, scoring 25 (18b, 1x6, and 2x4). Shiyas Abraham chipped in with a valuable 36 (21b, 6x4).
Set a mammoth target of 227 for victory, Oman Orix Leasing was bowled out for 98 runs off 13.2 overs. Opening batsman Sarfaraz Abdul, 27 (12b, 5x4), and No.10 batsman Arshad Mahmood, 27 (12b, 1x6, and 4x4), were the only batsman who made noteworthy contributions.
