Muscat: Bank of Beirut and Bait Muzna opened an exhibition by Omani artists Juma Al Harthy and Mohammed Al Maamari on Tuesday. The exhibition, called "Rozna," features Al Maamari's portraits of old Omani men and young Omani boys, and Al Harthy's colourful multimedia paintings that include carving, painting, and calligraphy inspired by doors, windows and traditional motifs from Jabrin.

"I'm glad we made this exhibition with Bait Muzna. It is new work with new techniques and new materials," said Al Harthy. Al Harthy's work has been exhibited as far away as China and Italy and he said he considers his art great tool to teach the world about Oman.

Al Maamari has been painting portraits for over 10 years and has mastered the technique, capturing not just a true physical likeness, but also the spirit of his subjects. "You need to learn how to read the impressions on the faces and reflect them. Those emotions contribute something to the painting," Al Maamari explained.

Bait Muzna's director, Monique El Helou, said she was proud to show the work of these fine Omani artists. She said Al Maamari's work has grown and now combines realism with contemporary styles, while Al Harthy's seems to bring Omani villages and history on the canvas in a bright, imaginative way. "I love their work. I was so happy to see Al Maamari's new work, and in Al Harthy's you can really see the beauty of Oman," El Helou said.

The exhibition was the fifth hosted by Bank of Beirut as part of the CSR initiatives. Juliana Frem, Retail and Marketing Manager at Bank of Beirut, said the collaboration with Bait Muzna has been a great way to promote local artists.

"Every time we have an opening we see new faces. I think we have lots of fans of art here in Oman that were hiding. It's a very successful event," Frem said.
