US equity funds seek to tap investment from Sultanate

Muscat: A delegation of private equity and venture capital funds from the United States met representatives of local pension funds, sovereign funds and other institutional investors to seek investment from Oman in private equity.

The trade mission, which had a match-making meeting, consisted of Castle Harlan, Irving Palace Capital, Tullis Funds, Alinda Capital Partners, Top Tier Capital, Bertram Capital, Lion Capital, New Leaf Venture partners, Walden India and WL Ross.

"This initiative can and should lead the way to a significant boost in US-Oman bilateral economic relations, and I look forward to hearing the fruitful results of this inaugural meeting," said Greta C .Holtz, US ambassador to Oman.

She noted that there a growing number of US companies coming to Oman to not only receive contracts, but to put down roots, set up businesses, hire Omanis and make Oman their base of operations.  "As the US ambassador, I am dedicated to expanding the commercial ties between the US and Oman and look forward to working with all of you to further this goal," she added.  

Greta  said the US private equity and venture capital fund managers are world-class leaders in delivering top 10 per cent returns to their clients. Through the presentations and discussions you will participate, it will be clear why the US remains an optimal destination for fruitful investments that will deliver substantial returns over the long run. 

She said in addition to outstanding infrastructure and access to the world's most lucrative consumer market, the United States offers a predictable and transparent legal system. The best and brightest in the world come to America to commercialise their ideas under our supportive framework for patent protection, easy access to venture capital financing, transparent commercial dispute resolution, and modern bankruptcy provisions.

Bilateral trade
Oman's exports to the US showed a decline at $1.3 billion in 2012, from $2.2 billion in 2011, while US exports to Oman moved up to $1.6 billion from $1.4 billion in 2011.
