OIC to discuss Palestine issue at Cairo meeting

Cairo: Deliberations at the 12th Islamic Summit of Leaders of Countries in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) began in Cairo.

The 12th summit is titled 'The Islamic world: New challenges and growth opportunities'. Representing His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Manthri, Chairman of the State Council, will take part in the deliberations.

The summit will discuss a broad range of issues of concern to OIC member states, the foremost of which are the Palestinian cause, the Israeli occupation, political matters affecting OIC countries, and ways of combating terrorism.

The summit will also discus economic, social, and cultural topics related to improving efforts to combat poverty, accelerating development, and improving living standards for Muslims, besides tackling challenges facing Islamic nations in general and the means of dealing with these challenges.

The summit agenda covers topics such as ways to fight 'Islamophobia' and ways to boost scientific and technological cooperation between all Islamic countries. It will also address the Syrian crisis and the conflict in Mali.
