Number of fixed phone users rises

Muscat: Subscribers of the fixed phone service in the Sultanate stood at 302,945 at the end of November 2012 against 287,323 at the end of December 2011, constituting a rise by 5.4 per cent.

The monthly statistical bulletin released by the National Centre for Statistics and Data (NCSD) pointed out that subscribers of billed fixed phone service stood at 224,790 at the end of November 2012 against 215,193 in 2011 whilst the number of subscriber of pre-paid fixed phone service (Sahl) stood at 25,951 compared to 26,345 at the end of 2011. The number of public phones all over the Sultanate stood at 6,801.

The bulletin also pointed out that the number of fixed telephone lines subscribers in the Governorate of Muscat stood at 140,523 as at the end of November 2012, followed by the Governorates of South and North Al Batinah 32,933, the Governorate of Dhofar 22,783, the Governorate of Dakhiliyah 20,009, the Governorates of South and North Sharqiyah 16,718, the Governorate of Dhahirah 7,463, the Governorate of Al Buraimi 6,887, the Governorate of Mussandam 2,999 and the Governorate of Al Wusta 426. Subscribers of billed and pre-paid GSM service stood at 5,225,093 at the end of November 2012 compared to 4,809,248 by the end of 2011, constituting a rise by 8.6 per cent.
