Muscat: Indian School Muscat (ISM) recorded an emphatic 7-wicket win against Indian School Wadi Kabir (ISWK) to clinch the Al Turki Enterprises-sponsored Girls Under-19 Inter-School T20 trophy for 2013. The match was held at the Municipality Ground No. 4 at Al Amerat.
Batting first, ISWK was bowled out for 115 off 19.2 overs with 43 extras, which included 41 wides, helped swell the score. Komal Shettigar, with 2 for 4; Shaina D'Souza, 2 for 17; and Shreya Shetty, 2 for 29, shared the bowling honours.
Requiring 116 for a victory, ISM, thanks to an opening partnership of 51 off 5.4 overs between Sujana Sunder, who remained unbeaten at 38, and Jeena Jones, 31, as well as 29 wides, reached its target with 5 overs to spare. Akshada S. bagged 2 wickets, conceding 25 runs off 4 overs.
Brief scores: ISWK – 115 All Out off 19.2 overs (Akshada S. 13; Komal Shettigar 2/4, Shaina D'Souza 2/17, and Shreya Shetty 2/29) lost to ISM – 116 for the loss of 3 wickets off 15 overs (Sujana Sunder 38 N.O. and Jeena Jones 31; Akshada S. 2/25). Points: ISM – 2 points (5 games – 8 points) and ISWK – Nil points (5 games – 2 points).
During the prize distribution, Vaishali Jesrani, a lady coordinator for Women's Cricket, thanked Chaitanya Gulabsi of Al Turki Enterprises for sponsoring the tournament. She also thanked Viswanatha Iyer, finance controller at Al Turki Enterprises, for attending the prize distribution. Vaishali, while thanking Oman Cricket, appealed to all schools and parents to encourage and support their children in continuing to practice and participate in future tournaments.
Secretary of Oman Cricket Madhursinh Jesrani thanked Chaitanya Gulabsi for his continuous support of the girls' tournament. While congratulating ISM on its achievement, he wished the ISWK better luck for the future. Jesrani noted that a full-green ground with turf wickets was available should the girls require a field for practice sessions. The secretary thanked all the umpires for their support. Viswanatha Iyer then distributed the awards on behalf of the sponsors. The Best Batswoman award went to Sujana Sunder of ISM, and the Best Bowler award was bagged by Sruthi Rajagopal of ISM.
