The 32nd Annual Day Celebration for the Middle, Secondary and Senior Secondary Sections of Indian School Salalah was held on Thursday, February 7, 2013 in the school premises with a lot of exuberance and ardour. His Excellency J.S. Mukul, the Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman presided over the function as the Chief Guest and Padma Shri Yusuf Ali M.A, the Managing Director, EMKE Group and Lulu Group International graced the occasion as the Personality of the Year.
The School-Band sprang into tune when the Chief Guest, His Excellency J.S. Mukul and the Personality of the Year, Padma Shri Yusuf Ali M.A. arrived. They were received and escorted to the stage by Mr. Cyril Samuel, the President of the School Management Committee, other esteemed Members of the Committee and Mr. T.R. Brown, the Principal of the School. H.E. J.S. Mukul, Padma Shri Yusuf Ali M.A. and Mr. Mathew Abraham, Educational Advisor to the BOD Indian Schools in Oman were given floral welcome. The auspicious event commenced with the National Anthem of Oman and India.
Mr. Cyril Samuel, the President, the School Management Committee, welcomed the Chief Guest, H.E.J.S. Mukul, the Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, the Personality of the Year Padma Shri Yusuf Ali M.A., Mr. Mathew Abraham, other dignitaries, invitees and parents.. Mr. Cyril Samuel, during his welcome address, highlighted the progress of the school and the efforts taken by the SMC to meet out the growing strength of the school, the welfare of the staff and students.
Mr. T.R. Brown, the Principal presented the eventful School Report tracing the progress made in the scholastic and non-scholastic areas during the academic session 2012-13. He, while doing so, specially stressed on the achievement of school in the Secondary and Senior Secondary Board Examination results and Championship trophy in the CBSE Oman Cluster Athletic Meet, 2012.
The venue then witnessed the most glorious moment of the evening in which H.E.J.S. Mukul, the Ambassador of India honoured Padma Shri Yusuf Ali M.A., the Personality of the Year with the Life Time Achievement Award in recognition of his remarkable achievements in business, industry and his praiseworthy services in the field of social work. He was presented an engraved Silver Plaque and a shawl.
The Chief Guest, H.E.J.S. Mukul, the Ambassador of India, while addressing the gathering, congratulated the entire school for excellence in academics and extra- curricular activities and also appreciated the teachers for the efforts being taken to inculcate life values in children. His concern to the students was highly appreciable. He said that "the future is beyond our control; we cannot secure the future of students, but we can prepare our students for the future." He further expressed his sense of gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said for being generous with Indian Schools and the community in Oman.
Padma Shri Yusuf Ali M.A. started his address being thankful to the Almighty and to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said for his benevolence. He was much grateful to the SMC and the school for felicitating him with the Life Time Achievement Award. He quoted Holy Scriptures and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in moulding the students.
Adding glories to the show was the presentation of prizes and awards to students by the Chief Guest for their admirable and commendable achievements both in Academic Excellence and Co-curricular Activities. While the Blue House received the winners' trophy and the Yellow House runners-up for CCA in Junior category, the Blue House and the Red House bagged the winners and runners-up trophy in the Senior Section respectively. The newly instituted 'The Life Skill Award' by Mr. V.S. Sunil, Former President of the SMC, for the best House in Life skills was won by the Red House. The most prestigious award for the Best Out-going Student was awarded to Master Salman Javed of class XII for his excellent performance in academic, sports and co curricular activities .This special honour was done by His Excellency J.S. Mukul presenting him a pure gold coin.
Mr. Cyril Samuel, the President of the School Management Committee and Mr. T.R. Brown, the Principal made the occasion more memorable when they presented the mementos, a token of appreciation of love and good wishes, to the Chief Guest, H.E.J.S. Mukul and Padma Shri Yusuf Ali M.A.
The hard work, the students had put in during the rehearsal reached its culmination when they presented the cultural programme which began with a semi-classical fusion dance invoking the presence of the Almighty. The satirical Street Play was a replica of present Indian society and it ended getting the message that the world is a better place to live in. Odissi Group Dance and Fusion Dance added to the fervor of the evening with an amazing enthusiasm and zeal accompanied with lots of applause. In addition, the dance performance by girls from Secondary Section was an assortment of graceful movements and tunes from the Arabian Nights.
The 'Instrumental Medley' and the Group Song in praise of our Mother Land by the School Choir kept the audience enthralled. The fillers presented occasionally kept everyone in great amusement and relaxation. The revitalizing performance was the Dance Drama in the form of 'Mime' called everyone to rise and fight against various atrocities faced by passengers especially during a train journey.
'Kittu the Great'- a comedy Skit in English gave a few humorous moments to think and laugh and highlighted how one has to tackle an interview. 'Bapuji Ki Thamanna', Hindi skit was staged trying to make all of us politically conscious of our responsibilities to build India as dreamt by our Father of the Nation. The skit in Malayalam 'Guru Vachanam' revolved around the delicate relationship among the parents, students and teachers.
The performance titled 'A Journey through Shadows' was a different treat to all appealing 'No war, only peace, protect the environment and make an impact' added to the fervour of the evening with an amazing enthusiasm and zeal accompanied with lots of applause. The additional bonanza of the evening was the dance performance 'Defying Gravity' by the Senior boys. It, indeed, rose to a final crescendo full of magical ultraviolet rays capturing the whole attention of the audience.
The effort of the entire team of comperers is truly beyond words of appreciation.
The colourful and ever memorable evening celebrations of the Annual Day came to an end with Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr. John Abraham Rajamoney, the Convenor, of the School Management Committee. Mr. John Abraham Rajamoney expressed gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, H.E.J.S. Mukul, the Ambassador of India to Sultanate of Oman, Padma Shri Yusuf Ali M.A., Mr. Mathew Abraham, former and present members of the SMC, members of Indian Social Club, parents, teachers, students and the entire Ministry of Oman.
