New Bangladesh envoy appointed

Muscat: Sheikh Sekander Ali has been appointed as the ambassador-designate of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to the Sultanate of Oman.  He will be arriving in Muscat today.

Sekander Ali joined the Bangladesh Civil Service in 1989 and served in the Administration branch for two years. He then joined the Bangladesh Civil Service's Foreign Affairs branch in 1991.

He is at present the Director General (Administration) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka. The new envoy has served at various Bangladesh missions, including as second/first secretary in the Bangladesh Embassy in Abu Dhabi from 1995 to 1999, as first secretary/counsellor in the Bangladesh Embassy in Brussels from 1999 to 2001, and as counsellor/minister (political) in the Bangladesh High Commission, Kuala Lumpur, from
2003 to 2006.

Gulf posting
He has also served as minister (political) at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Doha from 2006
to 2010.

The incoming ambassador has held various posts in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangladesh, including as assistant secretary in the administration and the West Asia Section, as director at the Foreign Secretary's Office and the Finance Directorate, and as Director General (West & Central Asia). Ali has a master's degree in science from the University of Dhaka.
