Bangla rock band performing
Muscat:
The ubiquitous Bangla band has come a long way since it first came to being more than two decades ago. Some have embraced the genre of rock music, some have gone for earthy folk tunes fused with elements of western pop and then there have been the select few who have relied on simple yet poignant lyrics and catchy tunes to draw the attention of the listener to the current affairs, cultural phenomenon as well as human emotions.
Chandrabindoo has been the foremost exponent of the last variety and the music lovers were recently treated with an enthralling performance of theirs at the Oman Auditorium, Al Bustan Palace. The singer and songwriter duo of Anindya Chatterjee and Upal Sengupta held the audience spellbound with their complete repertoire. This included serious numbers like Adorer Nouka, Jodi Bolo Haan as well as foot tapping numbers like Twaker Jotno Neen and Sweet Heart which had the audience dancing in the aisles.
Some of the other hits presented by them included Bhindeshi Tara (from the hit Bengali movie Antaheen), Pashbalish as well their cult hits like Bondhu Tamaye and Gaan Bhalobeshe Gaan. The sheer quality of the accompanying musicians further enhanced the quality of the presentations giving the houseful audience a most satisfying musical experience.
The programme was presented by the alumni of Bengal Engineering Science & University (BESU), Oman Chapter. The BESU alumni has over the last several years consistently presented to the audience of Oman, the best that the art and culture of Bengal has to offer. Each of these events have been completely non-commercial in nature and have been funded by the well-wishers of the alumni. This programme is another feather in the cap for the alumni of this 150-year-old esteemed institution.
