OGC ready to host GCC Golf from February 23

Muscat: Oman Golf Committee (OGC) is ready to host the 17th GCC Golf Championships from February 23-26 at the Almouj Golf at The Wave Muscat.
Speaking to the media about the championships, Mundhir Al Barwani, chairman of OGC said the stage is set for the "biggest tournament" in the region.

"We are ready for it and we are looking forward for the championship now," Al Barwani said during the press conference held at Almouj Golf yesterday.

"It's indeed a privilege and honour to play host to this prestigious regional championship. We will ensure the successful and smooth conduct of the championship," Al Barwani said. Apart from host Oman, six countries from GCC – Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are participating for the championship. Bahrain has won the title 16 times while UAE has won the previous edition. "We hope this time we will win the championship,"

Mundhir said. It is worth noting that OGC had initially planned to organise the previous edition in Muscat last year, but was moved to Dubai following a last-minute request from the board. "Golf is a rapidly growing sport in Oman. This time we are ready for it because our key objective is to promote golf in Oman further. We basically want to showcase Oman and it helps to tourism as well. In way this championship will be beyond golf," said Ahmed Al Jahdhamy, vice-chairman of OGC.

Speaking about Oman's preparations, national skipper Azzan Al Rumhi said the team is all set for the tournament. "We are having a good preparation so far for the championship and we hope it would turn out to be in our favour. We are geared-up for it," said the veteran golfer.

OGC board members Lee Odonoghue and Mohammed Fauzi Adnan along with Simon Duffield, general-manager of Almouj Golf was also present at the press conference yesterday.

Omani squad: Azzan Al Rumhi, Hamed Al Rumhi, Ali Humaid, Mohammed Al Mawali.Junior team: Rashad Al Harthy, Fahad Al Qitami, Hamood Al Harthy and Amjad Al Toqi.
